So I can get 2 5770's for around the £250 mark or one 5870 for around £350.

I'll probably need a new PSU for both as I only have 530w at the moment to run those, an i5 750 overclocked to 4ghz and 5 hard drives.

So which would you get? I've seen the benchmarks and the 2 5770's out perform a single 5870...

decisions decisions!

The 2 x 5770

You might want to look at a single HD5850 instead. Because later when they are cheaper, you can get another and crossfire it

This question is asked so much, search is your friend. I opted for the 5770's and saved the £100. If i were looking now i would wait a few weeks to see how the 5830 shapes up, could be great in crossfire.

Have a look for guru3d's december vga charts, the 5770's beat the 5870 in 7 of the 9 games tested (some results are close) and even beat the 5970 in 2 games! There are a couple of games (borderlands comes to mind) that have lowish min fps with the 5770's, out of line with general performance. This is down to drivers and should be rectified in future updates.

Overall i am very pleased with the 5770's.

Thanks guys. Sorry should have searched.

I'll wait a bit for the 5830 but it'll be around £200 won't it? So £400 for 2.

I see the 5770's are 4th in COD.

I might get those on pay day then and a new PSU.

What power would these use?

i think there will always be a time when you regret getting crossfired 5770's for example you come to play a game you really like and find out it dosen't support crossfire too well then it leave you wishing you'd bought that 5850/5870

i'm having the same dilema TBH it's swings and roundabouts both have there pros and cons

I also went 2 x 5770, but sold the second within a week.

I play 90% FPS at the moment and know one mentioned that getting flash banged with crossfire enabled would act like a flickering mess.

I'm tempted to sell the other one and buy a 5870 next week. Found one for £300.

May just wait for Fermi and see who is best value.

2 5770's
pro's- lower power consumption, small size, low heat output(especially with vapour x models) good frame rates if the game supports it

cons- Need a x fire mobo with good spacing (asus p6t deluxe for example),not amazing in every game, you could notice skipping with the crossfire (this can happen to some people not others they notice juddering i personally can't see it)

5870

pros-Good frame rate for a single solution, single slot mobo=more options, less chance of poor frame rates due to x fire incompatibility

cons-High price at the moment, larger card (might need larger case),moderate to high heat output, could need beeter cooling when future games push the card more to it's limits,

5850 is a 5870 when overclocked so i would go with that period.

it is not a 5870
the 5870 has more stream units amongst other things simply overclocking the 5850 will not yield you a 5870 FULL STOP

yes similar performance can be gained BUT IT IS NOT A 5870 THAT IS A TOTALLY DIFFERENT THING if it was exactly the same board with just a different bios then yes you could say that

i feel people are using this 5850 is a 5870 term way too much around here recently

5870 then crossfire them when u need more power.. :P

or wait till next gen of cards are out anyone remember the preformance jumpfrom 3870 to 4870 !! :P SHALONGG!!
