Hi,
Im thinking of purchasing another 8800gt and combining them in SLI. I was wondering if it would be worth it and would i see or notice a great deal graphics wise or anything like that. Would i get a better GPU instead for something like £100?

A little over £100 would get you a single GPU atleast as good and maybe better than 8800GT SLI without the reliance on multi GPU scaling.

However if you can get a second 8800GT very cheap and have an SLI board it does give you a nice boost for 1680x and 1920x res tho starts to run out of VRAM at 1920x if you turn the AA up too much. When I first ran 8800GT SLI I had a 1440x900 display and it was still giving 60+% scaling then everything ran silly smooth.

I got a second 8800GT a few months back. On an i7 920 at 3GHz it made the following improvements...

3d Mark 03
35692 55494 = 155%

3D Mark Vantage
6298 12373 = 196%

Crysis Demo
26 37 = 142%

GTA4
36 54 = 150%

However I took it out after a week or so as I didn't really need the improved frame rate, and my load power usage increased by about 150 watts - peak was around 540 watts and that was on a 480 watt PSU!) Also the 2 cards close together got hot and so both their fans would run at 100% after a couple of minutes.

In summary, good value increase that often gave better performance than a GTX 260 or 4870, but noisier and more power hungry.

How much faster would 2 x 5770 be over 2 x 8800gtx? .. hope this is not looked at hijacking his thread as its in a similar vein :)

2x 5770 are quite fast compared to 2x8800gtx.

Not only that but it uses less power, less heat, supports dx11 etc.
