just wondering if its worth getting the Geil 2GB kit or if there are anymore reccomendations? i have 3x512mb geil value at the mo & currently at 2.51GHZ @ stock (mem set to DDR333, ASRock dualsata AGP/PCIE mobo).

Would the 2gb enable me to get a better OC & will it be noticeably faster compared to what i have now?

if not are there anymore memory suggestions for around £120?

Thanks

Yeh, if you got a 2gig set I would think it would be noticeably faster. By running 3 sticks you are putting more stress on the memory controller and limiting your clocks slightly, also with 2 sticks you'll be able to run in dual channel giving yourself about a 10% performance boost. You will probably be able to run at 1T as well for a bit more performance. :)

Any 2gig set would do really, depends on how much you want to spend and if you prefer to get a set with tight timings and run it on a divider or get a high speed set to keep it at 1:1 but with looser timings...

Funnily enough i was just looking at the G.Skill stuff after reading your stickied topic, would the PC4000 HZ be worth the extra £6 over the ZX at all?

Depends how far you want to push the RAM really. :) But I would go for PC4000 kit tbh if you can afford it. But the ZX can be overclocked too, think there is a thread around here somewhere. The timings are quite loose on the PC4000 kit but if you don't run 250Mhz 1:1 you can tighten them up, or even use dividers to find a good balance between fsb/timings. :)

Doesn't the asrock default to 2T no matter how many sticks?

Hrm not sure about that myself? I've just noticed in the ASRock DualSata 939 topic though that someone has hit 3GHZ with their G.Skill ZX kit and even managed 1T by changing the burst to 8, looks like he has the same Chip aswell (going by CPU-Z) so very muchly bordering on those now.

Also i just read on the ASRock site that this board only supports up to PC3200 DDR400, the HZ is PC4000 DDR500 - would this have any consequences at all am i still best just for the HZ?

Ahhh gotcha, HZ memory it is then!

Also, is there a guide for timings? Im a complete newbie to memory clocking (only have 2.5ghz on current setup as somebody else had same RAM/CPU as myself & i used same timings as he did :p ).

Only wanting around 2.5/2.6 so are any ideas on what i'd need for this ?

Thanks!

That would have been me :D

aye twas you :)

also to add i changed my order back down to the Geil 2GB kit instead, noticed somebody has got 2.7 with theirs (whereas i have 2.5 with 3 sticks anyway) & also realised that im not really that much of an overclocker to warrant spending £160 on ram. oh and im a bit skint too :p
