All my old computers used CPU's that only had 2x512 L2 cache and now I have AMD cpu's that have 2x1024KB L2 cache.
Is there any gain from have 2x1024?
I don't play games and only do graphics, photo editing, music software and normal stuff.
Current cpu is Athlon 64 X2 5200+(2.6GHz)upped to 2.8GHz just to get the ram running at 800.
If I went for an Athlon 64 X2 5600+(2.8)then I would not need to overclock just to have the ram at 800.

i'd guess a very slight performance gain, but as AMD's have memory controlleers on-board the chache is just used for instructions, unlike the Intels which used to have large amounts for storing RAM locations and accessing data from there

The cache different has been compared to having an extra 200Mhz, clock for clock in reality you won't see much difference but benchmarks do favour the 1MB cpus and it is evident in the figures.
