I see that there is a deal on the BFG 7900 GT OC @ OcUK for £190 each.

I cannot decide whether this is better than spending £440 getting a GX2 or simply two BFG GT's?

Well if it was me, id go for two 7900Gt cards, partly because i already have one, and i highly doubt i could fit a GX2 in my case.

I fail to see the point in the 7950 GX2, it is the same price as two 7900GT's, it has slower memory, still needs a SLI mobo (not 100% sure) and has stwo PCB's close together so must be very hot.

Yeah go for the GT's, only advantage of the GX2 is that it only uses one slot so you still have a spare to add another later, but 2x GT's will use both slots and so thats as far as you can go, could look at it as do you want to jump on the DX10 bandwaggon straight away, in which case you would have to ditch the 2x GT's, or if your not bothered about DX10 as its gona be ages away yet before stuff comes along that its gona be worth buying a card for, then with the GX2 you still have a spare slot to add another so your not stuck on the upgrade, add another to boost the performance further at a later date, which you could'nt do on the GT's, so you still have an upgrade path till you want to go DX10, hope you know what i mean, stretches it out a bit more. :)

With that though you would have to look at would you still be able to get rid of the GX2's when the time comes for your DX10 upgrade.

This review might help. It compares a GX2 against 2 7900GTs in SLI and against 2 7900GTs in SLI @ GX2 clocks. According to that review, it seems that the GX2 is a match for the 2 7900GTs, and fares particularly well at high resolution and high levels of AA.

I think the real selling point of the GX2 is the fact (correct me if I'm wrong) that you can run it in a non-SLI mobo (there's a compatibility list here). Also, I believe the GX2 has reduced power consumption relative to two 7900GTs. If I hadn't already gone and bought a 7900GT, I'd be considering buying a 7950 very carefully. It can be had for little more than the going rate for two 7900GTs.

Still has the annoying ability of only having one usable monitor output while SLI'ing which is major drawback for Me

Thank you for posting mobo compatability list ( 1/2 of which are SLI boards) disappointing that only one DFI board is on there (anyone know anything about the Infinity board??)

I would go with the GX2, updated gpu's - 512MB per board (might not be much use now, but in the next few months it may well be) and it should work in one of those boards gaurenteed

7950 GX2  , only because they seem to out perform 2x7900's and i've got one :D, runs all latest games at max settings other than oblivion (damn games only using one core!)

I dont think that even though the gx2 has 1 gig of ram that it works out at 512mb per core. I remember the voodoo 5500 having 64mb but some of the memory was mirrored for textures etc so it was really a 32mb card, think this works similarly.
