3.1 Hifi System for the PC?

Hello,

I have been thinking about buying a loud 3.1 hifi system for my pc, it needs to work well for blaring out high quality dance music (mainly drum and bass), and be at the reasonable price of £500-£1000 (cheaper the better, but it can be stretched if need be). Does anyone have a recomendation for a system like this?

I came across this idea of having a 3.1 system after a visit to richersound and looking at Cambridge Audio CXA80 & CXA60 with floorstanding speakers and a REL subwoofer. I really did like the sound quality the Cambridge Audio CXA80 & CXA60 provided, and tried it with many speakers. Unfortunately this system with the floorspeakers just wouldn't fit on my desk, It wasn't quite loud enough, and was like £600 above my budget...

So after the trip to richersounds, I did some measurements and thought I can fit a pair of bookshelf/standalone speakers easily, and to make up for the missing drivers the floorstanding speakers had, I'll get a centre speaker as well.

My hifi system knowledge is very much lacking, but I think I'll need an AV Receiver to be able to acheive the 3.1 system, with an USB input for the pc, or with a DAC for sound quality? As for the speakers and subwoofer, any recommendations are welcome:)

Oh Thanks! I did not know there was a difference between AV Amplifier and AV Receiver until you mentioned it. I'll be sure to check out Q Acoustics when I revisit Richersounds as well.:D
