Just to say - brilliant film go rent now :)

Up there in the same league as Unforgiven imo. Great interplay/dialogue between Bale and Crowe throughout.

The Hero is not the bravest or the quickest or the most skillful.

He's just one determined one-legged farmer :)

edit: its out on Bluray as well though i mad a mistake and rented the dvd version bah.

The Original was not too bad either, it has dated a bit but that is only to be expected of the old Holywood studio system

I agree, this is a very good film. Not your typical western, which only adds to its appeal.

Bale's and Crowe's performance's are both outstanding.

I enjoyed it, but don't feel it was a classic due to way it ended. Also Christian Bale's character didn't really stretch his acting like some of his other roles, I thought Russell Crowe outshone him - that's coming from a diehard Bale fan.

SPOILER - Highlight

I like the movie but why did he kill all his men and then get on the train? Just because he sympathised with Bale? Bit far fetched like...

The Machinist (El Maquinista) is his best film by far imo..

Christian Bale starved himself for over 4 months prior to filming, as his character needed to look drastically thin. Allegedly his eating consisted of one can of tuna and an apple each day (approximately 275 calories), although there are conflicting reports on this. According to the DVD commentary, he lost 62 pounds (28 kg), reducing his body weight to 120 pounds (54.4 kg). Bale wanted to go down to 100 pounds (45.3 kg) but the filmmakers would not let him due to health concerns. He later regained the weight, plus an additional 40 pounds (18 kg) due to weightlifting, in preparation for his role in Christopher Nolan's Batman Begins.

What a legend :D

Because *spoiler* otherwise bale's wife wouldn't get the money if crowe didn't get on the train and how else would he get on without his posse there?
Also, his posse killed bale, who he admired.

Yeah saw this recently and absolutely loved it, Christian Bale is one of my favourite actors anyway, and I do love Russell Crowe even if he is naughty IRL..

I saw this last weekend. Very impressed as I haven't seen a western in years, let alone a good one like this was. A refreshing film to watch, not exactly original but made a great change to what I've been watching recently.

Had a interesting, convincing story with super characters and a some good gunfights. The 5.1 was nicely done too.

I think Christian Bale can do no wrong and yes yaboy, his work for the Machinist was exceptional. Disturbing performance in a good way

Wasn't a bad film. Not a masterpiece by any means, but much better than most of the tripe that's about at the moment.

I thought it was amazing. It's the only Western I've ever seen! Watched it due to good ratings on imdb (iirc 8.7/10).
