3.2GHz with e2160 - want more!!

Hi guys

This is my first overclock so any help much appreciated. Now i know i am not going to notice much difference in performance but it's the fun factor and pusing the equipment to the limit that i'm interested in so help me get to 3.4GHz (and maybe 3.6GHz!!)

Specs:

P35 DS3R v2.1 latest bios F11
e2160 M0 Stepping D (under Tuniq tower -27ºC idle)
4GB Geil PC6400 ULL (4 x 1GB)
Corsair HX620W

So i can get 3.20Ghz orthos stable whether using 400*8 (memory at 400) or by 356*9 (with memory runnning at *2 or *2.4).

I can boot into windows at 3.30Ghz but after a few minutes of orthos BSOD :(

Now for voltages:

DDR2 set to +0.4v (2.196v in BIOS - Geil ULL is rated 1.9-2.3 so should not be a problem) running at 4, 4, 4, 12 2T
CPU set to 1.6000v (1.536v with vDroop under load according to CPU-Z - next step in BIOS is 1.8v unfortunately)
FSB and MCH set to +0.2v (though at 3.2GHz it is fine on +0.1v) (safe to put these up to 0.3v?)

Temps

both cores 65ºC under orthos load according to Core Temp

So all overclockers out there help me do what u guys do best, OC the hell out of this chip :D

Set the Geil to 2.1v.

Drop the CPU voltage to 1.55v in BIOS.

Set both the FSB and MCH voltages to +0.1v (and that's only because you're running 4 sticks of memory).

Too much voltage can often have the same effect as too little.

have lowered voltages a bit but cant get it orthos stable at anything over 3.2 :( boots into windows at 3.3 but isn't orthos stable :(

Can get to windows load screen at 3.4 but then crashes or BSOD before it gets into windows.

the capability seems to be there but need to do something to get it stable

Have you tried relaxing the memory timings at all? It does help in gaining stability. Also, just for test you could try maxing out the memory voltage to highest rated (2.3). If you do that it may allow for stability.

I very much doubt that his memory is affecting anything at 367x9 (3.3ghz) when the system is stable at 400x8.

yea its not memory, i have that running fine at 400*8 at 2.4 (960MHz) at 5, 5, 5, 18 at 2.1v, when upping CPU i have the RAM at between 750 and 850 depending on the multi so dont think it's a RAM issue.

Indeedy, don't be shy with this chip. You will need proportionally more vcore for the speed increases as you reach the limit of the chip.

I have to pump 1.675v into my e2160 to get bench stable only @ 3.6GHz. Enough to benchmark but way too much volts and high temps (>75deg) for 24/7 usage! Will even boot at 3.7GHz (see sig) :D

Good for a giggle though!

i have the same problem (well not really a problem) with my e2180 anything over 3.2 and it isnt orthos stable, i currently have it at 1.45v with 400x8 but it is fairly warm under load about 65c max so i wouldnt really bother pumping much more through it for 24hr use.

I'd love to but the DS3R options after 1.6v are 1.8v and 2.0v

up the mch to +0.3 - it needs the extra voltage already as you're running 4 sticks of ram, and at the higher fsb frequencies it really needs the juice.

My e2180 is stable at 3.2, but it'll post at 3.9 :P
Just wish my board could support it at that speed, but it's a budget p31 board :(

And what about the FSB +0.2v or 0.3v? Will having this and the MCH at 0.3v have any detrimental effect or reduce the life of the board?

Can boot into windows at 3.4 but not stable and post at 3.6GHz :(
