Currently got 3.4 Northwood + X1950Pro AGP

Thinking about E4300 (OC'd) + x1950Pro PCIe

Do you think there'll be much improvement in games. This month I have been mostly playing R6 Vegas & Titan Quest, but have spats of Oblivion.

Cheers ;)

Have a check on the CPU charts. Although I don't think the Northwood is listed, I don't know anything about P4's myself as I was an AMD boy. Is it old? You could compare it to other P4's.

On the games front I'm not too confident it would give you a significant performance increase with the X1950 AGP and PCI-e having similar speeds etc.

Someone with a bit more knowledge would probably be able to give you better advice. So do you have a motherboard and RAM also lined up?

Any particular reason for the DS4? I think the only difference between the DS3 and DS4 is that the DS4 has the firewire support and I think it may also support SLI/crossfire.

Just thought I would mention incase you wanted to save some £££ ;)

Nice call. Since I have no intention of SLI/Crossfire. You've just saved me ££!

Depends on the game really, my 3.2P4 Northwood was able to run WOW at 1920x1200 with all the eye candy turned on no problem. But it struggled with Oblivion.

The Core2 clocked at 2.66Ghz does oblivion with ease, infact it really needs me to buy a better graphics card, the 7900GTX just isnt good enough for [email protected].

Northwood wasnt a bad chip, but P4 never was a perfect processor for gaming.. Good enough yes, but considerably outperformed by AMD64. Core2 is now the current gaming champ, and even at 1.83Ghz an E6300 will generally outperform a [email protected], at least in the gaming arena.
