3/4 Of The Screen Black - When Fullscreen

This is posted on behalf of my brother, for some reason when he tries to play a full screen game on his laptop 3/4 of the screen goes black and only displays top left quater of the game. The game runs in 800*600 resolution, and what I think is happening is that the game is full screen but the visual is only 800*600 of the top left of the screen.

Anyone got any idea how to fix this or why this happens? It worked before and then suddenly stopped working, I tried a system restore to before it happened, but it kept saying it couldn't complete the restore.

Most likely the game is running at a refresh rate or timings that the panel doesn't support, and is thus adjusting it.
What is the native res of the laptop? Can you not set the game to run in this res, or at least run in Windowed mode?

many laptops have options that disable panel stretching and the like. try and see if he can disable it in the options somewhere.

Thanks for the reply, I ended up just uninstalling the drivers for the screen and then reinstalling from the official site and that seems to have worked for the time being, so fingers crossed!
