Im pretty happy that ive gotten it this far but it just feels like a can get a bit more. Ive reached a point where no matter how much I up the voltage it wont be stable past 500 fsb. My temps are around 45-49C under load and im putting in around 1.4V to keep 3.5 stable. Can anyone suggest what might be limiting my overclock?

An E6300 at 3.5ghz @1.4v is pretty damn great. How far have you pushed the voltage?

to around 1.45V at 2080 (520*4) but i wasnt getting anywhere so im looking towards other reasons. I havnt touched the RAM yet so i might try overclocking that.

ye i will. before though i had an MSI p6n sli (not platinum!) and only managed 2.9 and that was my first overclock. And that rig was biult by someone else for me so i decided to build one 100% my own. I read reveiws about the 780i boards being poor overclockers but somehow i dont think so now!

Ive hit a wall at 2080(4*520fsb) and cant get it stable no matter what i do. Ive put the vcore all the way up to 1.5 but it just shows negative results. Im pretty happy at a stable 500fsb so I might leave it for now. I f anyone can give me some insisght on where to go next i might try and go further!(If possible)

id'e imagine you've hit the limit with the E6300. My E6300 wont go any higher than 3.15ghz before it becomes unstable. Any higher than that is considered a lucky bonus.

/Edit: actually having said that, I went and had a mess around in the bios of my GA 965P-S3 and upped my FSB to 475, and for some odd reason, Orthos seems to be stable now @ 3.31Ghz. Wonder if it could go higher...

Could be your board limiting you, you need a good one to go beyond 500.
Mine used to do 3.6 stable, posts into windows at 3.7ghz but gets hot to quick under phase could go much higher. did 3.5 at 1.32v.
is a really good processor, probably best clocker I have ever had, that and a celeron 300a.
Performance wise with high FSBs not much slower than a quad in games.
was considering selling but for what people will offer me, its too special to give away so I think I will just have it as a keepsake.

That is an excellent chip you have there to get it to 3.5Ghz.

Many others (inclusing myself) have not been able to get it past 3.2Ghz stable.

Well done :)

Yep, definitly a keeper if you can get it stable at 3.5ghz. I currently have mine at 3.31ghz stable for the first time. Not entirely sure what I did different from the last times ive tried, but im happy :D

Problem is i was planning on ordering the q9450 the other day before i did this and now i cant decide what to do! Ill probably buy it anyways but still thats a good overclock that im getting rid of!

Think your find your board is holding you back, mine wouldn't do 3.5ghz on a 965 DS4, would top out at 3.4ghz for benching 3.3 for everyday.
I never reached 3.5 stable until P35, never tried higher as I only kept it a day, the X38 would give 520 FSB all day long and post into windows at 530 so definetly a board thing.
