Spec me an HTPC that I can reproduce 3 times.

  • All will be playing media over the network, so storage isn't an issue.
  • Media will be in HD/Bluray quality, but won't necessarily need a blu-ray drive.
  • One of the machines will need optical sound output.
  • Price is not an issue, but as cheap as possible without losing quality of output.
  • Oh, and a sleek, black case would be nice.
Any help is appreciated, thanks!

i'd pretty much go with the spec above expect stick in a low power AMD cpu.... if you can wait a little while there is a 45w X2 4850E coming which is perfect for HTPCs :)
I wouldn't bother with a soundcard, just use onboard. You can always add one later if you are not happy with the quality (of the 2 not using optical out).

Case wise i can only really think of the Antec media case unless price really isn't an issue and you can afford an Omaura or OrigenAe.

Agreed with above, the htpc that needs spdif just use onboard sound.

I hear the auzentech sound cards are ace and highly recommended for htpc use.

oh as for cases:

that antec media case is it the fusion??? its about £110 anyway.

I have mine in a silverstone m-atx case, its a great little case, all depends if u want it to look like a dvd player, personally i would rather have £50 in my back pocket :)

if you don't want to wait for the 4850e. there are other retailers stocking the
4050e 2.1ghz 45w and 4450e 2.3ghz 45w
