This query stems from the following post but I thought it justified its own thread:
'The one plan' on 3 mobile is properly unlimited, but for example, galaxy s3, 31 quid a month, unlimited data, tether it to your pc.

Depends on signal in your house though, I only get 3-4 at home but my mate gets about 10meg.
I have had a look on the '3' site and it state that "Tethering is only permitted on the One Plan" but doesn't really give any more information. I get the impression from other sources that you have to have a Tablet in order to connect your PC / Laptop to the Internet.

Does anyone here have any real-world practical experience of tethering with 3 mobile that they can share? What is the coverage like? What are the speeds like?

I travel around the country quite a bit and it would be handy not to have to find free WiFi whenever I want to access the Internet.

I tether from my 4S on the One Plan. You just enable the personal hotspot and then connect the other device via Wi-Fi, USB or Bluetooth.

The speed can be a bit variable, but it's usually 1Mbit+ which is enough to do something useful. It is occasionally up around 10Mbit, but not often.

I used to have a 3 dongle for when I was travelling, but now I just tether to my S3 and works just fine.

Coverage and speed are no different to what you'd expect with a dongle, or directly on your phone.
