I have a spare ati x1550 graphics card and i was wanting use a three screen set up.
At the moment i run a 4870x2 with the extreme cooler so this covers my second pciex16 slot.
I'm running dual monitor setup 24" main with a 19" second display with extended desktop enabled.
1st , If i put the x1550 in the bottom pcix8 slot but i wont be cross fireing will it slow the first pci x16 with the 4870 x2 to pci x8?

2nd ,Will i be able to extend my desktop to the 3rd monitor which will be plugged into the x1550 or will it come up with its own task bar duplicating the 24" monitor connected to the 4870 x2.

So what I'm after is the 24" in the middle with the task bar and then 19" monitors on either side where i can extend my desktop to. Will be used for editing photos.
P.S. running windows 7

Cheers

Well i just set it up and it works a treat used the catalyst control center to set up the screens.
Couldn't do it in the display settings in win 7 one monitor was just a rainbow.
All i need to know know has it slowed my 4870 x2 down to pcix X8 is ther a tool out there i can check this with?

Ran windows performance test and my graphics score dropped from 7.5 to 6 so something slowed up some where. The x1550 low profile is a sapphire 256meg ddr2 pcie x16.
There is enough room to fit the 4870 x2 in the second pcie x16 slot and fit the x1550 in the first pcie x16 slot. Will then put the bios to boot from second pcie x16 slot.
Or should i just get a single 1gb 4870 and run them cross fire? Again the 4870 x2 will have to go in the second pcie x16 slot with the single 4870 going in the 1st pcie x16 slot.
Or do you think becouse the x1550 has only 256mb of ram the performnce dropped remember these are no crossfired the x1550 is unable to xfire.
Any other suggestions welcome

Another thought could i not just buy a dvi splitter cable and would i be able to extend my desktop to both 19" monitors and just use the single 4870 x2 card .
so 24" in first dvi and bothe 19" in the second dvi with the splitter cable , but i wouldn't want to mirror the 19" monitors i would want them both be independant extended desktop displays.

well i swapped the grphics cards round putting x1550 in the 1st pcie x16 slot then put the 4870 into the 2nd pcie x16 slot and booted up
Up starts windows on the x1550 card saying it needed drivers for the x1550 card and there was no signal to the original monitors at all.
The 4870 x2 was in divice manager and so was the x1550 but high lighted.
So my guess is that x1550 not supported fully in win 7 wouldn't load ccc either.
Any thoughts#
