been toying with the idea of tripple monitors for my racing sim

Just had an idea and thought I would pass it by you guys.

I currently have a Dell 34” ultrawide monitor. My GPU is a 1080 Ti

I was considering two 27 (16:9) monitors to use as the side monitors.

Would this work or am I best just sticking with three 27” monitors

I can't see why it wont work, as long as the monitors have the same pixel depth e.g. all monitors are 1080 height wise? I might be corrected by another poster who has first hand experience though.

I recently converted to a triple set up. I own a 34" but threw caution to the wind and invested in three monitors. I could have tried to keep the 34" as my central screen, but for me I wanted my set up to look uniform (same size, height etc).

I can see the benefits of having a 34" as the central screen though. It would look amazing. Not sure of the resolution of your 34" but with two 27" either side, its going to need some horsepower. Whilst your graphics card is decent, you may have to reduce the detail down a notch on heavy weight sims. I am running three 23" 1920 X 1080 using a 1070. I don't run AAA titles on triple screen. My taste in driving sims are not the latest and greatest - usually older titles (Automobilista, Race 07/Experience).

When running Automobilista as an example, its not cutting edge by any stretch but I do need to reduce the AA down a notch so that the frame rates remain consistently high.

The benefits are like night and day for driving sims (I would imagine the same for flight sims) and I rarely notice the borders in game. For FPS games, feels slightly odd but could be me - I am still getting the hang of the extra screen estate; the borders are more pronounced but this may be something I need to just get used to and 're-educate' my brain.

With driving sims, triple set screens are amazing. Its nothing new but for me, just small things make a difference, being able to have a field of vision akin to real driving and you can turn off 'look to apex' as this just happens naturally. A lot more immersive. I wish I had invested sooner.

One other thing - If you are going to mount the screens; You will need to invest in a pretty beefy desk stand.

I purchased a fairly cheap stand. My first attempt at triple screens was with three 24" monitors whereby the screens had a tendency to sag if left over time. I had to keep fiddling with the angle etc.

When I switched to smaller 23" monitors - I know the slightly smaller size should not make a huge difference, but since swapping to smaller screens; the mount is perfect.

I could have rectified and invested in a premium stand - having blown a few quid on monitors, the desire to spend yet more money - zero. :D
