Hey there, my first post after much, much lurking.

Hoping one of you can answer a quick question.

Due to eyefinity I was going to buy an ATI card for my new rig and three monitor setup.

Am now wanting to nab a GTX 560 which supports dual monitor.

Question is, can I lob on an old Nvidia 6800 alongside it to drive the third monitor.

This is purely for work productivity, I will keep gaming to one screen.

This will obviously have nowt to do with SLI or 3D vision, so I do not need any SLI related answers.

Look forward to hearing your thoughts.

Yes it will work providing the 6800 is supported in the driver bundle that you are using.

A wide number of cards supported over different gens is the primary reason for me switching to Nvidia. I have a 8400gs paired with my gtx460 for a 3 monitor setup - Ultramon takes care of the desktop orientation.

Thanks for the replies.

Still torn between 6950 and 560. Was drifting towards the 6950 with the potential of a bios flash, but have been reading about this exploit getting patched with new PCBs.

Should probably have moved faster and got the 6950 at the beginning of the month.

Mmmmm, decisions decisions.

I'm sure there's plenty of stock around still - and you can always call and check. Got one over the counter at a local competitor a week or so ago and it flashed fine.

If you have 3 identical monitors; i'd lean towards the ATI just for the option of 3 screen gaming to be honest. But if you are dead set on single screen gaming (or have different monitors) then a 560 may be a better option...

I shall do some stock checks today I think. What are the noise levels of the 6950 like once it is flashed? Ideally I am looking for silent operation for work and movies, but happy enough with a whir for gaming.

I don't know about silent, but it's quiet when on the desktop - I don't hear it above the other stuff in my case.
