Hey all,

Currently considering getting a GTX 660, and l'd like to run the 3 displays below from it for a bit of gaming now & again :

1920x1080 with a vga connection

1280x1024 with a dvi-d connection

1280x1024 with a vga to dvi adaptor

Does anyone know if I'll need to run my main monitor, which has a vga connection, off a displayport -> vga adaptor to allow the 3 monitors to be used?

Or could I use an hdmi -> vga adaptor, which is half the price?

With a 6870, I had to run the main monitor off a minidp -> vga adaptor to get all 3 working, and I was wondering if it's similar requirements for Nvidia 6xx cards?

P.S I won't be using NV Surround for gaming, just windowed mode stretched across the screens, or SoftTH.

HDMI -> VGA will not work as HDMI does not output VGA signals, only digital (DVI/HDMI).

As for the 660, unlike AMD you don't need to use Displayport. However, depending on the 660 you're getting you may need to use a Displayport -> VGA anyway, since these cards usually only have one DVI-I port that can output VGA signals (usually the other DVI port is just DVI-D, which is digital only). Which 660 was you thinking of getting?

Thanks for the reply, but I'm now confused :)

Reason is that there is hdmi -> vga adaptors that must work. Because if they didn't then all the 50+ reviews on a popular website would be fake.

Also someone in those reviews bought one to connect up their vga HP monitor to a GTX 670 & it works apparently ( just found this while reading through the reviews )

I just thought it was an active adaptor, and the adaptor itself was doing the conversion, like the active minidp -> vga adaptor which I already have & used with my 6870.

The card I'm looking at is the KFA2 660 EX OC, which has one dvi-d & one dvi-i.

If it was an active adapter then fair enough, but last time I checked those things were damn expensive :p.

Well, stick the DVI monitor to the DVI-D port, then one of the VGAs to the DVI-I one, and then get a HDMI/DP to VGA adapter (whatever is cheaper) and connect that to the last monitor.

EDIT: Well I'll be damned, active HDMI to VGA really have gone down in price... by a lot !

Yeah they have. The minidp -> vga active adapter I bought was only £15.

The hdmi ones are cheaper still.
