3 month old build faulty

the ocz ram was swapped wth 2x1gb geil.

I built a pc about 2.5 months ago, 3 weeks ago it went into hibernation and wouldn't start, i reset the cmos, then it worked fine. 2 weeks later the same problem, what component could be fault here, i believe its the motherboard but not sure ho i could fix this or if it needs replacing

Have you tried running tests on the memory as this is one of the most likely causes. Try running a program called memtest86 or you could try one stick of memory at a time to see if the fault disappears with one and not the other.

i shall try that, but the problem happens randomly, i cannot duplicate it

Sounds like it could be an issue with the motherbaord. Are all the drivers up to date on it and the bios?

If the memory does not fail then i would agree that it sounds like the motherboard could be at fault.

I would have thought the problem would have to occur more than twice before it could definitely be considered faulty?
