Hi,

Need a little advice please.
My old lanboy case comes with Two chassis mounted fans, both with the big Molex sockets using only grd and +12V.
My newmobo has several 3 pin connectors for chassis fans!
The 3 pins are for ground, +12v and Rotation.
As the case fans are 120mm and almost silent I wonder if I could just attach to the grd and +12V connectors on the mobo. Would this just spin them at top speed?
What's the deal with the rotation connection?

Cheers
Fred

If you could remove the molex and attach 3 pin plugs then yes you could probably run them off the headers, the rotation pin afaik is for speed sensing to report back to whatever program you have to monitor RPM of your fans. And as your current chassis fans don't seem to have a third wire for RPM monitoring obviously you won't get them reported :)

Thats great, Thanks.
Because my psu needed an adaptor to fit the new 8Pin cpu power connector I had to use Two Molex + the old 4pin just on the cpu, leaving only two free.
And I need to Power up 4 SATA drives, 1 CD/DVD burner, the two case fans + cold cathodes (optional). I had intend to use 1 molex for 2
Hdrives + cdrom and the other for 2 Hdrives + the 2 casefans. It might have worked but not ideal i guess. Better I use the mobo 3pin headers for the case fans hey.

Cheers
Fred.

Yep, you will need to purchase 3 pin fan headers (0.1" pitch) and you can crimp them around the wires using a pair of small long nosed pliers. If you have the option, but extra pins!
