3 pin to 4 pin?

I have an Abit IN9 32 max mobo which has a 4 pin connection for the CPU fan.
I fitted a Noctua NH-U12F cooler and fan and this comes with the three pin fan connector . Course this will fit in one of the nearby Aux fan connectors but although that aint good practise it also prevents me from booting up as i get a post error either 8E or 8F . This is purely because there isnt a fan connected to the 4 pin cpu fan connector.
Is there a three to four pin converter i could use or will i have to get another 120mm fan for the Noctua heatsink? The only four pin ones i seem to see are the molex PSU type so im a little stumped at the mo.
Any help appreciated :)

I dont have the board but Im sure you can plug the 3-pin into that 4-pin CPU no problems :) there is raising plastic bit that will make sure you can only plug the 3-pin fan connector in a correct way. Alternatively, you could just go into the BIOS and find the option to disable fan monitoring (had to do the same with my Asus, not sure about Abit):D

Plug the CPU fan into the CPU fan socket. It fits because the 4th pin is for a different sort of fan. Thats why the 'key' on the socket is offset.

Thx for answering ken / Philly.... i did have a lil look in the bios but must have overlooked the option or missed it, my bro mentioned that he 'thought' you might be able to plug it in anyways but i thought id better find out first as i never had to do that before and didnt want to zap anything.

All 4 pin fan header are legacy compatible I believe.

Heh, similar thing on my Abit except I watercool the CPU. First time I booted it the siren was going because there was no CPU fan signal and my missus goes 'you better not have ******* broken it already!'

got to love that!

Took me ages to work that out on my first water cooled system, was looking at it for about a hour before it clicked 8-)

Lol. The only plug i missed recently was the PCI-E for my 8800. It was screaming at me so loudly i panicked and knocked it off at the wall. Then realised what the problem was.
