1. Disable Hibernation (if you have 4gb ram, the hibernation file will be 4gb on your C: ) you don't need this for sleep mode (which is faster)

to do this, in the start menu, type

powercfg -h -off, then press enter

.............

2. Disable system restore,

to do this, right click computer, properties, protection, untick all the drives

and resize the amount it can use for the 1 point that it creates

Click Start, type 'cmd' right click it and choose run as administrator, now paste this in..

vssadmin resize shadowstorage /On=C: /For=C: /Maxsize=300mb and press enter

...........

3. Run Disk Cleanup, (this will remove the hibernation file)

...........

if you've installed SP1, then click start, type 'cmd' right click it and choose run as administrator and type

vsp1cln

this removes the SP1 backup removal files :) (about 1gb+)

.......................

Also, i highly recommend this tool CCleaner slim http://www.ccleaner.com/download/builds/downloading-slim, awesome for removing temp files

Cheers, I've done the others but was unsure about disabling hibernation. Don't think I will ever use it, so I might as well get rid of it.

Stupid you can't deleted old updates, if you have a early Vista release, latest updates plus SP then more updates looking at millions of gigabytes..

^yeah, that's a major pita :/

plus the fact that ms stores ALL the old dll's in the winsxs folder to keep app compatibility with apps that call the dll's, they all add up to a massive windows folder :(

Remove the frivolous stuff in drivestore *after* you've installed and plugged in everything you need :) One is just a backup of the other anyway. If you have problems you can just download your drivers manual (like you would anyway!) and install them.

when you say "like you would anyway!" do you mean "like you would if you still had Win98!"

No i mean like if you installed a printer, would you let vista use the default drivers or would you go to their site and download the up to date versions? That's what i mean.
