I just bought a ati card to run 3 screens from amazon.fr (i live in france) it says it runs 3 screen but its got 1dvi, 1vga and 1hdmi... however with all 3 connected it will only run 2 at a time...

do you think they have pasted a default description from the one that has a dp rather than vga? or am I being stupid?

Look for disclaimers / small print that says one (or more) of the listed connection types are available via adapters. Technically the card is capable of all 3 of those I/Os.

5670 would be a bit painful anyway I should imagine! (not that this helps)

It's down to the way the card drives the monitors. Without going into the technical details, you'll need to use a [mini] displayport and a combination of 2 of VGA/DVI/HDMI.

You can't use 3 VGA or 3 DVI or 2DVI+HDMI etc. It has to use DP + 2 others.

There's a reason for this and it's to do with how the card drives the monitors and internal clocks etc.

Unless your monitor supports DisplayPort you will need to get a DP->DVI adapter. Make sure it is an ACTIVE one, as this is needed for Eyeyfinity.

I've got mine running on 3 DVI type monitors using 2xDVI + 1 miniDP (using adapater).

tl;dr you need to use at least 1 Display Port connection.

this is the problem this card isnt the one that has a dp on the back its - a VGA, HDMI, DVI not like the very similar version I wanted with a DP, HDMI, DVI

do you think it sounds like I should take it back?

I would. Don't think that will run eyefinity. Depending on the game you want to play it will be pretty slow with that card over three screens.

If it doesn't have Displayport to run the third monitor, it can't do Eyefinity. I would send it back and find another card that does.

thanks guys - ill take it back - its not for games just web office work - need a 3rd screen (hd tv)

You don't need eyefinity then. Eyefinity is purely for gaming to extend three screens into one. If it's for design/office work, then you just need to run three screens in an extended mode. You should be able to do this with your current card no problem.

If your running Windows 7? Go into "screen resolution," and see how many displays are shown in the box?

Here is a screen of mine. It's setup in extended mode just now.

What does your look like?
