Hi All,

I'm currently running an eyefinity set up with 3 * 24inch Dell's powered by a 5970.

I want also to connect to the PC a 42inch Plasma/LCD.

As all of the slot on the 5970 are used 2* dvi and 1*display port, what is my option for powering the TV.

Do I need another gfx card in my second PCIE slot or is there another option?

If it's another GFX card, what would people recommend. It will in the main be used for powering the screen to stream DVDs/Blu Rays (and maybe a bit of showing off games).

Presume the card needs to have a HDMI out as well.

Thanks for any help

Bit of a tricky one this. personally i'd leave things as is with the eyfinity rig and just build a media machine for the TV. I'm running the same as you and the noise of the 5970's fan humming away will be too much for when watching films etc.

I built an extremely quiet media system that i use for music production and streaming video to my samsung TV over the LAN. Its very quiet but i can still run quite a lot of games nicely.

Yup, another PC would be the best bet, had considereed one of the small media PC's by ASUS, cheap and cheerful to do the job, but would prefer if at all possible to have it all running through one rig.

Especially as I already have 5 PC's in the house. Gaming Rig, Windows Home Server, Net Book, Work Laptop and HTPC for living room.

Going to need my own power station to run it all soon :p

I'm suprise at your comment on fan noise from your 5970. I don't notice mine, but maybe I've been used to the noise of the 4870X2 for so long which was noticeably louder. Are you sure its the gfx card making the noise and not your water loop? My fan is running at 25% on desktop use.

I aint gonna say how many computers i have in my house, nobody would believe me :D its a lot lol.

Another thing to look at is the connectivity options of your tv. I used to run my samsung solely from a Samsung 'Anynet' streaming server over lan, but that could only stream video, music, photos iirc. Now i have it connected via hdmi at 1080p so i can use the web, game, watch films etc.

I think a lot of the noise in my pc is the NB cooling fan, its a little delta. The rest are 120mm. I think i'm probably noticing the fans more since i moved my computer from floor to desk - I also made the move to the 5970 from 2 4870X2's - loud! lol

I'm loving Eyefinity btw, i just wish i knew how to get DCS Blackshark and LockOn to work correctly at 5760 X 1200. It does work but i need to be able to zoom back to see more of the cockpit. Currently wading through the web looking for solutions. I found Widescreen fixer earlier which seems to be a handy tool.

for DCS Blackshark, use the scroll wheel on the mouse to zoom in and out. I play that a lot myself and that works for me. Very useful when you need to scroll into specific control, e.g. missle screen.

Not sure why it's tricky but should just be a matter of sticking in another cheap HDMI capable gfx card (no need to crossfire them) and simply plug and go.

one thing to check is whether when running a game in eyefinity the forth monitor (TV) is disabled (dont see why it would be but could be worth an email to ATI).

That is effectively with the scroll wheel all the way back.. I'm using a TrackIR5 with the eyefinity rig - if i lean inwards it the monitors it zooms into the clocks, if i move backwards it zooms out.. It doesn't zoom back out far enough. I think its the same problem that Modern Warefare 2 has, it stretches the 1920 X1200 out sideways. You can get a fix for MW2 that shows the middle monitor as if you were playing on a single monitor yet the unseen areas on the left and right monitors come into view in the correct aspect ratio. Its a fov thing with Blackshark mefinks. I think if i could change the fov i could correct it. Looking into it later, back to work for me :(

Cheers for the feedback, I have another gfx car in my home server, so I thnk I'll take that out and put it into the gaming pc to try to see how it will function. Gaming is econdary on this, the primary need is to have DVD's videos etc playing through to the plasma.

Im considering getting a 5770 with eyefinity, gonna need the card, a much bigger desk and two more 24" monitors. Whats peoples opinions on eyefinity for gaming?

It's fantastic! If u can afford it get it but dont skimp of the hardware, a 5770 will not be up to the job! Two 5770s might cut it for a while but there is no upgrade path without selling them.

Bear in mind that if at least one of the monitors does not have a DP connection u will need to shell out for an active adapter too (£80).

love it, love it, love it.

I've come from a triplehead2go set up so have been using 3 monitors fro a while, but the eyfinity is better for me as nowe I can run at native resolutions on the 2407's.
