So I'm looking buy a car and I've narrowed it down but I'm not sure which to get...

2007 5 series 2.0 turbo diesel - 130,000 miles

Vs

2006 3 series 2.0 petrol - 110,000 miles

Both are £4000, what do you guys think?

In terms of reliability/running costs and generally driving.

I currently drive an X reg Corolla :p

Thanks guys

I can understand that, but would that still apply/make a difference if I'm currently driving a 17 years old Corolla?

I don't think you've searched auto trader for it then as there are a few for around that much.

I don't care about quiet, Im sure both will be a massive improvement in speed compared to my current car, insurance is not a problem, mpg will probably be the same if not better than my current car - so really the only thing I am worried about is how often I will be fixing something in the car.

Come to think of it, I just want a fun car thats probably why I want to go for these 2, I don't mind selling them in a year or 2 - but I don't want to be throwing money at it every couple months.

I know it doesn't seem like a fun car but when you come from an x reg corolla, every recent car is fun - Ive searched through other cars and the looks of these 2 are my only options.

It does seem that way and its quite silly I know, but I want a good looking car and those 2 are the only ones that interest me unfortunately.

Maybe I should have made it clear that its not much driving, commuting to work and maybe a drive into central London once a week or so.

What exactly do you want here - you don't seem very interested in any of the feedback and each post appears to attempt to justify the choice rather than genuinely seek advice.

Are you just waiting for somebody to tell you that a £4k 2007 520d is going to be proper good and totally reliable or something?

People have told you that it's probably not a good idea, some have explained why and alternative better suggestions have been made but you seem uninterested in any of that.

Honestly, the question should be directed to you, it seems like you're about to cry, the other replies on this thread were appreciated and good replies, but it sounds like something has struck a chord, did a 5 series break your heart?

Don't worry, things will get better I'm sure, but until then, could you tell me what you think about a 2006 5 series?

Ok, sorry to continue this convo :D

What would you guys say is a good 3 series to go for? I am seeing 3 series with FSH and 60-70k milage from a dealer with warranty, for around £5k, you guys seem to know a lot more than me, what should I look for when buying a 3 series?

Thank you

No, I'm not looking for a 5 series anymore, I'm going to go for a 3 series with around 60-70k on the clock, but I want to check with some of the guys here :D they stopped me before buying something 'fragile'. so I wanted to see how good a mid milage 3 series would be.

I don't like the look of the Mondoe, I've searched through a lot of cars but I keep going back to the BMW.

Ill be honest, when I meant fun, I may have exaggerated, I just don't want it to be slow, I know a 3 series isn't slow, coming from rubbish cars, most newer cars will be fast for me.

So I mainly want reliable, if I don't have to fix something major for like 2 years (I know, nobody knows when something will break) then I will be happy.

Hilarious. I don't care about the BMW badge, the only reason I'm looking at the 3 series is because I like the look of it.
