Hey all, I have three systems used at home, one by me , and two for my kids, all with different uses and play style,

All have their own limitations/ bottlenecks and I'm struggling to work out where to drop cash, re used or move parts around between each.

System 1 CPU/GPU limited? was primarily built for PCVR but now is used for 50% roblox ( IKR) /50% AAA titles (youngest son uses this daily)

  • AMD 5600X 6/12 CPU /Nvidia 2070 8GB, 32 GB 3200Mhz DDR4, ROG STRIX B550-F,Samsung 980 PRO 1TB nvme + various older SSD's , 360 AIO
issue's are games from last year or so having to be played on lower setting to keep above 60 sometimes, some slowdown overall

System 2 (suspect SSD is dying/old/slow, this system was given to use from a friend who rebuilt something new) It's a family shared PC primarily for day to day tasks/online games and some AAA titles

  • Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-9400F / corsair 32.0 GB DDR 3600 (2x16 and only 2x slots) / prime 310M mobo/1660 Super 6GB, Crucial BX480 SSD
Main issues are slow loads, constant stutters (a lot of even browsing and opening tabs) and hangs. Recently we all played COD 6 togther at home , 4 minutes to load the main game :/

System 3 (pre 2020)

AMD 3 2200G, Asrock b450m,32GB DDR 4 3600 (capped to 2400mhz due to CPU)

As of last week, now using the IGPU as AMD 295 artefacts and BSOD often unless removed, you'll laugh but I just dropped a 500GB NvME in there a few days back to see it helped but painfully long stutters and such, it mostly did tbf!

Its intended use is emulating/light gaming.

User of system 1, says he is VRam capped and does not have access to newer tech like Nvidia DLSS? sorry i'm showing my age haha, I don't know if a new GPU is going to be capped by the current hardware ?

User of system 2, I think it just needs a new SSD (ill drop the NVME in here that i just bought for testing)

Me system 3, was going to upgrade to something newer with an IGPU , but there's nothing logical my old board can take and I need an iGPU ? any and all advice welcome, like to do this sub 700 or sp?

Where I'm stuck?
  1. My 1st thought is go AM5 drop in for for system 1, meaning new CPU mobo and ram, but i'll take spares to system 2 or 3 but
  2. New GPU for SYS 1? and move 2070 around elsewhere?
  3. new CPU for system 1? was hunting for 5700/5800X3D but zero stock here in the UK im a few months late I guess

I would say option 2 is your best bet at the moment, unless you want to splash out. May be slightly Vram inhibited, but I would say only in top end newer games.
Buy a new ssd for system 2 and a fresh reinstall, or buy a cheap CPU/mobo upgrade off the MM?

Agree, I also think option 2 is maybe best option. Could move the 2070 GPU down to 2nd system to try and help extend it's life. Then source maybe a 3070 or maybe even a 4060.

Haven't mentioned what resolutions are being used on the first system. For comparison, I'm still running a 2021 build based around 5600x, 16GB RAM, 3070 8GB GPU and 1TB Samsung 970 EVO drive.

I'm mainly playing Destiny2 but at 4k due to my monitor. I notice some screen tearing, but still playable and i've not noticed any frame drops at any time. But I guess it's a fairly old game now.
