Hope you guys can help me out. A few months ago my brothers pc died and i couldn't find the cause so i built him a new one with some old bits. A couple of weeks ago this one died with a power problem, the power pack stank.
After fitting a new power pack it would boot to the first screen saying single mode ram and then freeze.
Tried different ram and that didn't work. It got to a stage where i could press the power button the fans would spin for about 20 secs then power off, or the fans would kick in after about 20 seconds from pressing power button and then remain on! At this point i was unable to switch the pc off using the power button. Never managed to get a single system beep.

Now tonight ive tried an old motherboard of my other brothers with different ram, cpu and power unit and that won't boot either with same problem!!

So i dug out my brothers first pc which died months ago, that will now boot first time and stay on for 20 seconds but still no system beeps!

Am i just unlucky here and 3 boards have died? The only constant in all these pcs is the graphics card, but ive tried taking that out and all 3 pcs act the same way.

Any help or confirmation that i've got 3 knackered boards will be greatly accepted.

it wouldn't be anything to do with what it's plugged into would it? eg. dodgy mains socket or dodgy extension lead or something. it just seems unlikey to have 3 fail on you

I've actually just got a forth one to work, looks like i've had two power packs fail on me and one has wiped out 2 pcs by not smelling or looking duff.
Looks like my bro's going from a 2 gig athlon 64 to a 800mhz duron :D
