3 vs 2 sticks (Faulty Ram Issue)

Hi,

My old PC had 2x 4GB DDR3 sticks so I decided to purchase another 2 to top it up to 16GB.

Since I have been having random issues I ran memory checks (1 at a time) and discovered one of them is throwing up errors.

Is it bad to run 3x 4GB DDR3 sticks (with the bad one removed) or drop back down to 2 sticks?

Also, I assume there is no point in attempting to fix the memory stick? (Tinfoil oven method?)

From my understanding 2x4gb will run in dual channel and the other 4gb in single channel so it should be fine.

So its best just losing one stick and running 12GB for stability?

Your going to have to loose the faulty stick see how the 12gb perform against 8gb.
