I'm a little bit out of the loop regarding the latest motherboards, but if I was looking to build a core 2 duo system on a typical motherboard (I assume Intel 775 is what C2D needs) would I be able to use the PSU I bought for my last build which was around three years ago?

The PSU is a Tagan TG480-U22 (review http://www.pcreview.co.uk/reviews/Miscellaneous/Tagan_TG480-U22/).

It has two motherboard connectors (20pin and 4pin) and has another power cable that can plug into a PCI-E card.

I was thinking of getting an ATI 4850 or nVidia 8800GT to complete my new build.

I think to PSU will be OK but thought I would ask in case there was something I am missing as I haven't really kept up with changes over the months.

It should be fine, PSUs do get less efficient over time but provided you don't try and run 8 hard drives and watercooling or something equally over the top from it then you shouldn't have any problems.
