evening people

i think its about time for me to upgrade my pc current pc

AMD opty 170 @ 2.8
DFI lanparty SLI-DR
2gb balisticx ddr
ATI X1800XT
600w enemax liberty
2x160 drives raid 0
dvd writer
cooler master stacker

that my current pc, it is used for gaming, office work, web design vmware testing and other bits and pieces.

i do like the look of the new dfi boards are they any good? worth the price tag as the SLI-DR i have was :D

i will be using 32bit xp so 4gb of ram sound good any difference between the makes? i have crucial balisticx in both my pc's and found them to be good and have a fantastic RMA system. after looking at the site they don't seem to have a 4 gb kit so any alternatives?

This is what i was thinking any recomendations?

Thanks

-XP Pro won’t be able to see 4GB of ram.

-Why buy an awesome crossfire ready board like that dfi but go for an nvidia gfx?? both great items but you have the wrong combo.

-Anything faster than PC2-6400 is wasted on core 2 processors, especially 1066FSB cpu's. Due to the architecture of core2 processors you see no improvement with very high bandwidth memory.

The P45 only brings PCIe 2.0 graphics (1x16 2x8 speed) and the new ICH10 SB which doesn't seem to add many new features. If the P45 is cheap it may be a good alternative to an x38 board, but that’s only if its cheaper.

tis true but 2gb is not enough these days.

fair enough any recomendation on an ati card that will give the same sort of preformance or do i wait for the new cards?

is it worth me going up to 1333 cpu Q9300 in staid of 1066 Q6600? what sort of clocks would i get with the Q9300?

How about somthing like this

The q6600 is a much better clocker, I would go for a q6600 or if you’re feeling rich grab a q9450, but don’t expect to get significantly more performance for the extra £100 spent. Bang for buck and overclocking potential you simply can’t beat the q6600.
Other than that all else looks top!!

just wait a month as everyone keeps saying. if you must buy now gtx's go for about £170 now, just clock it yourself.

im going to wait for the new cards see *** the prices are like.

i have quite an old enermax liberty 600w psu is there gona be issues with connectors for the mobo and gfx?

How much are you looking at spending on upgrading things?

And isnt the X48 better then the P45 chipset?

If your sticking to XP 32 bit I'd say go with 3gb memory 2x1GB and 2x512 MB

Gfx wise wait it out if you can as June sees the new cards coming out, its what i'm doing, further on that if your going ATI the DFI is a nice board tho if you do choose Nvidia you might want to look at an SLI board.

CPU wise the Q9450 is a lovely little processor also the Xeon version is the same with more OCability, I have a Q9450 running @ 3.8Ghz at present on stock cooling (lol I know crazy :p).

But it does depend what you want to spend in the long run, with the new cards coming out you will be able to pick any of the current line up cheaper or pay a bit more for a new "better" card.

Maybe, your going to need at least 2 6 pin PCI-E connectors if you go ATI an for Nvidia you'll need 1 8 Pin and 1 6 Pin, but wait an see what the new cards need then you can look at the connections you'll have to focus on.
