30/11 Strikes.

You know. It's only after being 65 pages into this thread that I realise what a selfish, self important **Drop the personal attacks**.
I hope he is first on the scrapheap when we start rebalancing Tony & Gordon's big giveaway spending ******.

I think Biohazard is just taking the pee for a laugh........

That what he said was totally wrong and inappropriate, neither have appologoaed for that and clarkson has appologogised for something he can't. For other peoples reactions.

it's unfortunately the case that people are paid based on the demand for their services, and the skill that goes into providing those services.

So how do you account for the Government trying to raid the pensions of firefighters who are always in demand for their services and are extremely skilled in providing those services.

How on earth would you know?
I know one of the people complaining personally and he told me.
Which is your bias.
I have no bias in this particular matter. If he said something with real intent that was genuinely out of order then I might think he should apologise for his comments. Frankly I think people should be able to say more or less whatever they fancy and people should learn to get real, but that isn't a 'bias', it's just my opinion. If that's a bias everybody has a bias for absolutely everything if you've ever had an independant thought prior to trying to form an objective opinion.

Frankly I would rather that a professional Union focused on more important matter for their members, like fair practice at work, pay and conditions, and so on...rather than picketing someone who made a plainly satirical comment with no intent to offend.

It was a joke, lighten up. In any event I don't think this issue will consume the entire resource of Unison but I couldn't care, as far as I know they have accepted the apology so I would assume common sense would calm it down. In any event I have no time for Unison they don't defend jobs in a civil manner at the table, they do so very activily and very politically. I don't like that behavour from a Union that will not offer democratic candidates but will campaign against them as if it were. I'm not going to defend these idiots so don't try and make me. ;)

It was satire but the complaint from them is his more overt political standing, it doesn't bother me although I still think the choice of language was poor. I could even laugh at shot but I think the rest of it was a bit too far. It's a matter of taste. It doesn't mean I take offence even if I think it was poor judgement.

As for the legal issue:

All the Unions are doing is making fools of themselves over this.

That Union. Not plural.

That Union. Not plural.

It is Unison and the GMB....I think the rest are all....meh! To be honest.

As for Clarkson...since when has he shown good judgement.....poor judgement is expected. Still it is bound to get a few laughs from the other two on the next batch of Top Gear...:)

Nick Higham from the BBC:

.......Jeremy Clarkson's penchant for outrageous remarks has provoked complaints before - he called Gordon Brown a "one-eyed idiot" and suggested truckers murdered prostitutes and, then too, he had to apologise.

The BBC will be hoping this row, unlike that involving Russell Brand and Jonathan Ross, blows over. The BBC thinks many of the complaints have come as part of an organised campaign.

Dunno, just ignore it..

Probably took offense :p

The hatred of the public sector doesn't effect me but it does create a negative athmosphere within the service. Technically I would love for the people to rip this particular system apart, but once you have got into the habit of hating governments or other constitutional pillars then you are on to a bit of a slippery slope.

I couldn't care how much people hate civil servants and council workers and rage at the system personally people are entitled to opinion but what does concern me is the impact it has on the ability to recruit talent particularly senior roles and the impact it has on athmosphere and moral across the services. They are under political attack constantly and it cannot be healthy in the long term.

Bet the Tories cant believe the story the day after the strikes was about Clarkson, you cant buy that press interest, Clarkson should demand some royalties from his mate Cameron, literally all it was "take them outside and shoot them" all day on the radio and news channels

And who said Cameron was Stupid......:D

I had not heard I doubt all the Unions are getting involved though, i'm not that interested in those who do but it's stupid there is nothing that requires legal redress.

Nick Higham from the BBC:

Maybe I don't really catch it much these days. Give him something to moan about in his column in the Sun perhaps.

I have just watched a woman claim that what Clarkson said was "incitement to hatred"! Unbeleivable. Interestingly she came across as if she'd be blown away by a stiff wind.

Unfortunately, anyone taking offence to what he said is not intelligent enough to understand that what he was essentially giving, all be it in an exaggerated way, were two opposing viewpoints on the strikers/strike action.

Anyone who actually thought he meant that the strikers should be shot in front of their family's is clearly deranged.

can anybody find any specific details of what the Unions are objecting to about the new proposals.

We're all living longer, so the retirement age has got to go up. The government promised that anybody within 10 years of retirement wouldn't have their retirement age change on them, so it would be for those now in their very later 40s and below who would be effected. Plenty of time to prepare.

I understand that currently the amount taken does not match up with the amount paid out leading to shortfall. The government is proposing to increase contributions by a few percent to meat this shortfall.

I have people on Facebook who were striking, and defending themselves on why they should be on strike. None of whom could actually pinpoint what the changes would mean to them and all were on strike because their union rep told them too !
