£30 a day for thailand?

Prices have gone up a fair bit in the past 5 years or so with the baht getting stronger / pound getting weaker but that'll still be plenty to get by.

I went last august/september/october and was on a budget of £20 a day. This got me 3 good meals a day, basic but good beach huts, alcohol and other entertainment, dive courses, moped rental, 3 day trekking (elephants etc) transport to and from islands/bangkok, rock climbing, kayak rental....

It was years ago, but i managed Thailand on £5/day no problem for reasonable accomodation, nice food, some beer, and getting around. Then i spent extra on trekking in the jungle, dive courses, stuff like that :)

the "entertainment" is likely to leave you with STD's and a half dead penis if you arent careful, your better off just staying in blighty and going with a niuce escort

 I knew it was cheap but...

Depends on what you want to do. I was spending an average of 4-5000 baht per day in Bangkok. But this included decent restaurants/bars/clubs/taxi's etc etc.

 How much did you spend altogether in the months you were over there?

Way too much! I was saving for around a year before I went to Thailand. I lived and worked at a hotel in England, so I had low rent and no bills which allowed me to save a lot.

I no longer work there, but I now live and work at a new hotel, so I should be able to afford to do something similar this spring (songkran). Can't wait to go back.

The memories of Songkran , Walking down the narrow paths of Phi Phi with your backpack on and getting absolutly drenched , and then clay in your eye! :D

That's fantastic, you must have felt like a king.

I was initially torn between working in the UK for a while and coming over here with a bulging wallet but in the end I opted for working here and being able to spend more time in the country. I don't dine at Banyan tree but I get an extra six months here, so it's a trade off :D

Was it difficult to get your working visa? I'd love to stay and work over there for 6 months+. The weather and food alone make it worthwhile. :D

I assume you need qualifications/savings and a decent job pre-arranged.

No, the visa is very easy to get, I just needed a letter from my employer. I used the Cardiff embassy. People talk about Hull a lot but Cardiff were very helpful, voluntarily calling me far beyond the usual consulate closing times of 12 noon!

I think unless you're going to teach English it should be a pre-arranged thing, I've met a few people here who are trying to get work beyond teaching and it's very difficult.
