Any benefit in getting a 80GB over 30GB iPod video player? Obviously there is the difference in size, but in terms of how much I can store, am I actually going to notice the difference?

Not going to buy any pay to download videos, probably mainly want music, but may in the future want to put videos on it. I suppose that you can put your own DVDs/videos on it?

And before anyone says otherwise, had an iPod previously and want to stick with the iPod, although I'm sure many other MP3/video players are just as good in their own right!

Cheers!

How much GB of music do you have is the question?

I have 20gb worth so bought the 30gb iPod. It will take me years to get 80Gb and by that time a new iPod will be out.

How much music do you have? No point getting the 80GB if you have < 30GB and aren't likely to get a lot more in the near future.

did he just ask that?

i dont think you should be allowed near a pc dude!

You know what I meant! Will I notice any PRACTICAL difference?! I know bigger is better, or at least that's what I'm told, was just wondering whether it's overkill spending the extra cash on the 80GB version or whether I'd regret it in the future.

what are you talking about?

its simple

if you have <30gb of music and wont go over 30 in the near future then get the 30. If you have >30gb then get the 80gb

what do you mean 'practical' difference?

lol

Got the 80gb version which holds most of my music collection.

It all depends on how much music you've got. However if you were going to use it for videos too then the 80gb one would probably be more sensible yes.

The only thing which sucks about ipods is they scratch easy and you've gotta use itunes, apart from that I think they're brilliant, I went through dozens of other mp3 players in less than a year before i got mine, had the same ipod video since february.

Ask yourself, are you going to use over 30gb?

Apple is due to launch the new iPod, replacement for the 5G and Nano tomorrow so it might be worth waiting so see what they are like.

I'll bear that in mind, although I was hoping to have one for the weekend to take to Egypt, so suspect my hand is forced!

i have a lot more than 30gb of music but i've never seen the need to store the entire contents of my collection on an mp3 player lol

30gb is a LOT of music. decide how much you really want on there and just buy a player lol

So stupid am I. Bought a U2 iPod Video a few days ago on holiday only to find out a few hours later that there is the possibility of a new one being announced. Meh. :(

Here are the announcements made at the Apple event:

The 30GB and 80GB are now 80GB and 160GB with 30hrs battery life. Both are thinner than their predecessors. This will be called the iPod Classic.

There's also a iPod Touch which looks like the iPhone and comes in 8GB and 16GB versions.

There's a refresh of the nano and shuffle as well.

The iplod touch is basically an iPhone with the phone ripped out.

Features flash storage (8mm thick so it's obvious)
The 16GB weighs in at approx £291... (ack)
WiFi built in for iTunes WiFi, and incase you happen to be listening to a tune in Starbucks (lol) and haven't a clue what it is, you can find out now.
Safari & Youtube is onboard too.

Think I'll just get the new Creative Zen instead as the iPod still has no radio, otherwise it's a brilliant move by Apple.

Not really - whats the benefit of getting the ipod touch over the iphone? Pretty much none. At the ipod 'classic' pretty much hasnt been updated since 2005 -how lame is that.

However what alternative is out there!? All the other designs are pretty bad imo and navigating around the music cant be beaten by the ipod. Why oh why can no one catch up/better apple - I wish they would.
