Just watching some of the reviews covering the size of some of the 3080 offerings, and the physical size of some is astounding!

Four slots deep? Really? I wonder how many of these cards are going cause new owners problems with cases which simply won't accommodate them, and how many of them are going to need some sort of additional support / bracing just to keep card and motherboard from deforming under the strain!

I can see a few returns of new cards because they aren't going to fit into existing systems.

The thinnest cards I have seen are the EVGA XC3, which are apparently 2.2 slots, about 44mm I think. This will just fit in my ITX case with an 8L volume :). It can take cards of 305mm in length, 144mm in height and 45mm in thickness.

Only need one to fit. EVGA seem to do 2.2 slots for the 3080 and 3090, but will believe the 3090 when I see it.

Never have I been happier that I got a core x9 case. No space worries there.
Not sure it's only a case issue, although that's certainly part of it, the motherboard slots will be covered by something that size, so if you have more than one PCi card it might also be an problem.

Even if it does fit though, another potential issue being raised is that of heat dissipation in smaller cases. If the card needs so much cooling then you better have a case with sufficient fans to get rid of it as well.
