Started watching a documentary on YouTube yesterday, pretty good.

Unique generational talent. Encapsulated everything a true racing driver should be - “If you no longer go for a gap that exists, you are no longer a racing driver.”

RIP.

I still remember the day. I watched the race and I was still new to F1 but I did not know how to process the fact Ayrton had passed away.

Great article here on the BBC regarding the special relationship between Prof Sid Watkins and Ayrton Senna.

It's a great read.

Yep.

If anyone hasn't, they should read Prof Sid's book "Life At The Limit". It's a powerful, infuriating, hilarious and essential work.

Monaco Historic have a Senna tribute. Some absolutely stunning cars. Shame the historic McLaren's are still not showing Marlboro. But, the Lotus' have John Player Special on them. Just looks right.

Ayrton to this day is the greatest race driver I saw race. He captivated like no driver I’ve ever seen and was spectacular to watch.

I saw many of his races in FF2000 and most of his races in F3 and it was at that point he stood out as very special. People talk about Tommy Byrne and I remember him being super fast too but he didn’t captivate in the same way as Senna did, not even close and I’m half Irish.

Something about Senna and I’ve not seen it since. He wasn’t perfect and some of his justifications for his actions were difficult to support but he was so fast and on his day peerless.

I've been watching F1 for something like 35 years... Late developer ;-) And I have to say that I've found it super boring last 3 years.... The only excitement was seeing Lando win and then Charles.. At least Lewis had a team mate who wasnt a total waste of skin like Perez and both Lewis and Schumi had teams competing against. Until this year its been only one driver realistically in with a shout cos of Perez lack of talent

Same… I’m 40 this year, but can remember vividly sitting on my dad’s knee and watching Mansell in a Ferrari, so I must have been 4-5 at the time.

I’ve found myself cancelling my Sky sub, as I just couldn’t justify the cost compared to how much I actually watched. I’ve watched all the WEC races this year, finding that much more interesting. The 6 hours of Imola and Spa have been two of the best motor races I’ve seen in quite some years, full stop. I’ve also paid the £20 for the TT+ live service this year and right into watching the TT as well - it’s so different watching a TT race live vs on a highlights show.

I only watch it out of habit.
There's no way if be interested now if I was watching for the first time.

Its something I put I before bed where I can watch the highlights or full rerun depending on the forum vote.
