Hi all. After a new computer so I can put this current one in another room.

Just after a base unit as I have monitor, keyboard and mouse. Also got a M-Audio soundcard to put in, and a copy of XP.

Would 3-400 get me anything worthwhile? I won't be gaming - mainly web design/music editing.

If so could I have some options please - been out of the whole PC loop for a couple of years now.

Cheers for the help!

Cheers. Is there any need for that graphics card though seeing as i'l be doing 0 gaming?

Would also need a hard drive in there.

That does sound nice.

Would it offer a lot of performance over the following:

Asus Vintage AE-1 Barebones system
AMD 64bit 3200+
1GB Samsung PC3200 RAM

Slightly over budget

The E4300 is a Core 2 Duo = dual core and also will have 2GB of RAM to play with, will also probably run cooler and more stable than the AMD X2 3800+, also will equal or better it's speed.

WTF?

For what he needs it for, the AMD spec is more than enough & within budget!

But, if you can stretch the budget then go C2D, but E6300 & above
