£300 for new Card assume 970 ?

For £300 definitely

Not sure I like the look at that card. People are reporting epic overclocking with the galax 970. Not sure on the warranty though haha

Gigabyte offer the best warranty, end of.

Next I would choose Galax because they have a UK based RMA. Only issue is two years not three that Giga offer.

MSI come next along with EVGA but both are EU based (Netherlands and Germany respectively) so if you RMA direct postage is costly.

I'm definitely loving my GALAX 970 EXOC, no question it's a beast at 270. For an extra 30 however the Gigabyte G1 gaming almighty15 mentions and the ASUS STRIX would be capable of slightly higher clocks. So if you're looking to spend 300, maybe compare reviews of those three?

thanks guys, Seems the Giga one is coming very highly rated. Will do a little more home work this afternoon before hitting the buy buy button :)

What card you have atm? Because the 970 going to be outdated in just 4 months.

Any card you ever buy will be outdated in short order ;-)

He asked what card to buy now, not in 4 months time.

Plus, there's no guarantee that AMD will actually deliver something that will compete with the 970's/980's.

Hi All

Just a quick check, Have £300 budget for a new Graphics card. Want Nvidia. Assuming the 970 is my best bet. Any preference on brand ?

like the look of this one willing to wait until launch

If you have the £300 I would just go for the G1, the oc edition does not come with a backplate and has lower out of box clocks. I'm also not sure if the power delivery is as good.

I do not want to go down the AMD route any way I'm afraid. Couple of tittles i use run better on Nvidia and so does some video editing software i use to Nvidia all the way for me.

I would go with the 970 G1 for sure, IF your case is large enough, it is a very long card.
Mobo and CPU will be fine.

Buy the cheapest card which offers enough performance for what you want to play *now*.

Trying to future-proof yourself with graphics cards by buying something more powerful is a mug's game. Graphics tech moves faster than any other in PCs and they depreciate like a rock.

but saying that i bought my 480 in may 2011 and its kept up with everything i have thrown at it until now, Even now i can play most things on high / very high. its just the ultra setting that are suffering.

You are correct sir, its only the enthusiasts and those that get caught in the hype of 'new' cards that are buying every few months. You are ready for an upgrade now, as you have discovered, buy the best 970 you can afford and look forward to it lasting you another 2-4yrs. :D

I have the Antec 300 & the G1 fits with no probs at all.

I recommend paying the little bit extra for the G1 backplate + higher clocks. You're almost guaranteed to clock higher than 1500MHz with these cards, naughty

EDIT: Sorry man turns out I have the Antec Twelve LOL - damn
