hello thanks for taking the time to read this thread and sorry to come here asking for help as i'm sure it happens a lot,

currently using a motherboard and cpu i wanna get rid off.

So i'm looking for an upgrade that will allow me to play games on my pc modern stuff and stuff in the future plus WoW and some ToR next year, currently have an ATI HD 5770 i plan to keep for at least for 6 months more. i've been looking at
Intel i5 760 and the AMD Phenom II 1055t, but not sure which is better for my needs now, and also whats going to have longevity, and if you could also suggest a motherboard and memory to accompany that i'd be most greatful.

I have a 700watt power supply if that helps at all

the "this week special offers" change tomorrow at lunch time, maybe something good and at a bargain price to look at then.

this is more of a enquiry into what i should get wont be buying this till november but ill probably be buying parts as i go starting for next week, so i'll see if theres a bargain, i could spend more btw than £300 but not dramatically, crossfire option wouldnt hurt but dont wanna pay too much to have that

This is what i have installed today :)

does that board having a x16 x4 does that run crossfire, or is it there for sound or something

lol i feel stupid, used to know about this stupid but so outta date not even funny

Edit: refering to the Gigabyte GA-870A-UD3 AMD 870 board,

and thanks stulid, that looks good noticed, both of you suggested the amd x4 processor, not with paying the £30 or so and going for the 6 core, as i could stretch £330 or so

if anyone could suggest an intel equivalent, for some comparison would be most greatful

the 870 will run the second slot at 4X, but I believe dreadi has an nvidia card so multi card support isn't a concern.

the 890GX does 8X\8X crossfire.

the 890FX does 16X/16X

thanks, more questions, with two 5770s would pursuing the 890FX to have 16x/16x be worth it, or should i just get the 8x/8x

Edit: Wont mention where for obvious reasons, but the 890FX seems to be around £125 worth it for a longer lasting boards for potential Crossfiring after my 5770 runs its course?

just get the 8X/8X the difference is so small, there is a test carried out by toms hardware which compared the two.

ok, last thing, thanks very much so far btw.

had a quick look at the numbers, if i can pay the £42 for a hex core, should i do it, or should i just get the x4 955?

ok thanks very much been most helpful, i'll bookmark this thread, thanks so much, takes the hassle out of figuring out what i'm gonna do with this upgrade, as it was worrying me that i'd do something stupid
