Hi,
A friend wishes to get a gaming PC and already has a 280x. With roughly £300 to spend on the rest (just the tower itself) what would you recommend? I had a i3, H81 Chipset motherboard and 8GB of RAM in mind.
Thanks! :)

Just stuck a cheap case with two fans in there to keep cost down. Think any 280X will fit as long as you don't place a HDD right next to it, although best to ask OcUK to confirm.

Can go for a mechanical drive in place of the SSD but it's better to spend a little extra and start off with an SSD.

He'll need the space so I think I'll go with a mechanical drive for now. Is that motherboard the best H81 you can get? Also, if he upgrades to a i5 'k' CPU in the future, will it allow overclocking? Many thanks!

That Asus and the Gigabytes (which are out of stock) have a good rep, at that price range. No point paying more money than that for H81, imo. I'd be looking at B85 if I could spend a bit extra or a cheap Z97.

Pretty much all non-Z boards (with the right BIOS) now allow a bit of basic overclocking and I know that Asus can O/C a Pentium-K, but if you wanted the entire repertoire of O/C settings then Z is what you need.

Only £20 more, so if he's serious about adding an i5-K later then might as well. You could swap to faster RAM if you go with Z.
