£300 pick me a card for gaming

Hi I got £300 to spend on graphic card but not sure which one. Looking for gaming. Looking at 970 or r9 290/x but really not sure. Going with a system that can handle these cards

From what I've read the 8gb only performs better in isolated cases

Maybe so but for under 300 quid, albeit by 5p its in budget and not much more than a 4GB card. More VRAM is better than not enough VRAM

I'd personally go with the lightning. A lot better cooler from what I've read. At 1080p 4gb should be fine apart from 1 or 2 situations.

If you're thinking of going crossfire in the future it's all the more reason to get an 8gb card.

I would probably get one of the £200 R9 290 cards and put £100 in the upgrade kitty for next year.

Actually that's a really good point, the PCS+ 290 is already overclocked to match stock 290X/970 speeds and is only 2/3 of your budget. The card will do for 1080p (even Witcher 3) and 1440p gaming.

If you did want to get a 290X the Lightning LE is pretty much the best option.

I can second this, great card. Run's cool, not very noisy. And wiping the floor of my brother's 970
