With a quad core you are a little bit squeezed and sadly I went over. However, if you want to get it under £300 you will have to sacrifice the Z77 board for a cheaper chipset.

Perfect spec by Smoogels, the only alternative I could give would be this:

The processor is Sandy rather than Ivy but its overclockable unlike the 3450.

I don't see whats wrong with your PSU at the moment. It's of good quality and will easily handle a reasonable system.

Would free a bit of money up too.

Definitely keep the silverstone psu, they are very decent units.

So my current PSU
can handle

an intel i5 3750k ?

I don't mind £350 with delivery tax and shipping.

Thanks

1 x Intel Core i5-3570K 3.40GHz (Ivybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor (77W) - Retail £189.95

Ivybridge uses less power to operate than sandybridge (TDP 77W) which is a bonus. It also has a much better IGP.

Z77 mobo allows you to overclock this i5K CPU. It also has lucid MVP which uses the CPUs IGP to boost your 6870s performance. Intel quick sync uses the IGP to "turbo boost" video encoding tasks with software that supports it. I went with the MSI mobo as there have been threads with people complaining about issues with that budget GB Z77 mobo and Ivybridge CPUs.

8GB of RAM @1600Mhz at a reasonable price aswell. Yes your 500W supply will be ok to run this rig

The OEM CPU comes with a shorter warranty and no heatsink. One needs to be added to the spec and it's more expense. I'm not familiar with that RAM but it doesn't look to be low profile so fitting aftermarket heatsinks over it could be an issue.

Thanks a lot honosuseri but I will go with the 4GB RAM instead and I understand its only £18 for 4GB RAM more which is a very good deal imo but I'm trying to spend the least I can.

Thanks for the help guys.
Would I see a major upgrade if it was to go for 8GB RAM?

edit:
Ye i noticed OEM.
I found another website that provides a retail verison of the i5 3750k which I believe comes with the stock fan?

You're welcome bud. Glad i popped in, the advice you are getting from "noob" forum members is quite frankly appauling.

You have a rough idea what to aim for now. Shopping around you may get the price lower, sadly you don't qualify for free P&P here yet :(

I would go for 8GB of RAM from the get go, you'll notice the Z77 mobo has 2 spare RAM slots so yes you could go with 4GB of RAM and add more later if you wanted to. You are looking for 1600Mhz RAM CAS 9 to 11 will be fine.

The overclock of the CPU is done via the multiplier in the bios (so no need for higher rated RAM really on this socket). Yes the retail CPU comes with a stock heatsink, it's not great but I should think you should get a 4Ghz OC from it with the 3570K

Alright thanks, I overclocked my E7400 to 3.5GHZ so I should be familiar with how to overclock the i3750k

I also have prime 95 and real temp to make sure everything goes well when I do overclock
Haven't built a rig in years

so going to be watching this a few times

That's the video we usually link to give people a good idea of what it's all about. Overclocking the CPU is really very simple as it is unlocked. If you set the multiplier to say 38 that's 100 x 38 = 3800Mhz or 3.8Ghz. 39 is 3.9Ghz and 40 4.0Ghz and so on.
