£300 to upgrade

Last November I built my current system as my old q6600 system died.

The current spec are:
I5 4690k @ stock speed but will overclock
Prolimatech 81 CPU Cooler
Gigabyte z97x sli motherboard
Team group 8gb 2133mhz
Kfa2 GTX 970
Samsung 250gb ssd
Crucial bx200 ssd
2x 1tb drives.

All inside a corsair carbide 200r case.

I have £300 to upgrade at the moment as I built the system fast as unneeded a computer. Main uses are gaming browsing at the moment.

I have looked at a better cpu cooler and new case

Not really worth upgrading much tbh, overclock the cpu then possibly sell the 970 for the 980ti currently on offer and add another 8gb ram.

Find another £20 and grab the £320 980ti

If you must spend the money, then as already suggested: double the ram and upgrade to a 980ti, assuming you can get enough for the 970.
