after turning green with envy at the amazing spec you guys got me on a budget, my chum has decided to use OCUK's new financing facility to do a budget upgrade himself.

he currently has case/monitor/kb/mouse/speakers/hdd needs a psu. i'm thinking he'll be overclocking an e2*** so a good heatsink would be handy.

cheers.

oh you'll probably want a budget :p £330-£350 would be ideal.

So he has the E2xxx processor, or not?

How's this?:

If the budget is firm, then you should drop down to an ATi graphics card to save money. I assume that since he already has the case and HDD he doesn't need an optical drive.

that sounds brill, i think he'll spend the extra to get the geforce, he doesn't have a cpu atm but i was just figuring you'd be recommending an e2 series.

i have an e4300 which i've clocked to over 3ghz on air fairly stabley using same cooler, now obviously no one can give any guarantees with ocing but is it fair to say that using that cooler the e2200 should push near to the 3ghz mark at least? oh and if it's not a great clocker he is going to notice a difference over his amd 64 3200+ yeah?

It should be a great overclocker. It's got a high multiplier so it doesn't need a high performance motherboard to get the job done. Even at stock it should lay waste to a 3200+. :p
