Spec Me a PC @ £3000 - Music Production & Gaming

Hey guys, I've come back for some wonderful wisdom as I've lost track of all the best GPU's CPU's etc out there once more.

I'm looking to build a great desktop once again for music production - electronic music specifically and if the cost allows it one for 4K Gaming.

I don't need a Mouse/Keyboard, but will need everything else including a copy of windows & the best sound card I can get from OCUK as well as a couple of large SSD's.

If there are any new GPU's/CPU's/4K Monitors on the horizon let me know. I can take stuff like that out of my current budget or wait for them to come out if it's soon.

Still early days for 4K res mate, GPUs aren't really capable at the moment unless you're fine with 30 FPS :p

Here's my take on it anyway a nice 1440p monitor with 780Ti graphics card.

There are 2 new CPUs(4690k and 4790K) being released next month which I would probably wait for. So you can look at the 4770k as a placeholder.

YOUR BASKET
1 x MSI GeForce GTX 780Ti Gaming Edition 3072MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card £479.99
1 x AOC Q2770PQU 27" Widescreen LED Monitor - Black £389.99
1 x Intel Core i7-4770K 3.50GHz (Haswell) Socket LGA1150 Processor - Retail £249.95
2 x Samsung 500GB SSD 840 EVO SATA 6Gb/s Basic - (MZ-7TE500BW) £215.99 (£431.98)
1 x Asus Xonar Essence STX Sound Card £134.99
1 x Gigabyte Z97X-Gaming 5 Intel Z97 (Socket 1150) DDR3 ATX Motherboard £119.99
1 x Kingston HyperX Fury Red 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3 PC3-14900C10 1866MHz Dual Channel Kit (HX318C10FRK2/16) £119.99
1 x Corsair Obsidian 550D Quiet Midi Tower Case - Black (CC-9011015-WW) £119.99
1 x EVGA SuperNova G2 850W '80 Plus Gold' Modular Power Supply £107.99
1 x Microsoft Windows 8.1 64-Bit DVD - OEM (WN7-00614) £74.99
1 x Phanteks PH-TC14PE CPU Cooler - Red £69.98
1 x Asus 24x DVD±RW DRW-24F1ST SATA ReWriter - Black (Retail) £14.99
Total : £2,347.86 (includes shipping : £27.55).

For a video card I would recommend the following 6GB card for a 4K system:-

EVGA GeForce GTX 780 6GB DDR5

I will be using it in my 4K rig :)

A 4GB R9 290X will outperform the GTX 780 :)

Only want the one monitor 4K means more real estate anyway for multiple applications.

Well you can easily fit a 4K monitor into your budget, take a look at the offerings

I'll be buying an external interface as well but perhaps the soundcard will be sufficient for my needs. Worst case scenario good for gaming and spotify.

There are plenty of premium motherboards that have onboard sound that rivals mid range sound cards and the high end internal sound cards usually don't match the quality of external sound cards in the same price range.

If it's for music production I'm assuming you won't need the analogue surround sound. You could go with something like a Scarlett 2i2, that's what I used to record for the last year or so. Only needed to upgrade because 2 channels wasn't enough to record drums effectively. I went with the 18i8. If you're producing electronic music you shouldn't need more than 18 inputs for recording. In fact, 2 channels would probably suffice so you could go with the 2i2 - I highly recommend it.

Thanks for the advice, I was looking at the cheaper models from the same company, so I'll just go with the one you've got I Imagine. I'll still get the soundcard though just to cover any potential situation where it's needed.

if you have £3000 to spend you might be better with one of those new apple macs, silent and powerful.

Depends what software the OP uses? Can drive numerous 4K displays though (multiple GPUs), has serious CPU grunt and PCIe SSDs so certainly has the power the OP needs. Dual boot should allow for gaming.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH *coughspluttercough.....dies*

Right tool for the right job and all that. What Smilertoo suggested has some merit. The worlds moved on from just saying 'LOL Apple'
