£300ish build...?

Hello there,

I currently have a friend, who is quite frankly sick of his current spec As it can't run one of his games (Medieval Total War 2 to be precise...)

So...He wishes to get a new system if he can, for about £300.

Now then, I've seen the spec here: http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showpost.php?p=11840934&postcount=2

Which looks fine, I think I changed the hard drive to the Samsung Spinpoint one, for no reason, just because I prefer the Samsung drives...And the graphics card could probably be changed now, but I'm not sure whats better over the 3850's and the 8800Gt's really, I'm guessing the 8800Gt might be slightly better?

Anyway, regarding the cpu in the spec...The system won't be overclocked, mainly cause he doesn't even know what that is, and I won't be overclocking it for him, just becase I don't really overclock either. So, would that Cpu bottleneck it / make it slow?

Any help is highly appeciated, as I know Core 2's are great when overclocked, but I don't really know what they are like when they aren't clocked.

Good to hear the stock speed should be alrite...This won't hamper the card at all then? to be honest though he isn't going to be buying many games, as he has his PS3 to play with sadly.

Would you change any of the other components do you think?

all 8800GT are the same, just pick the one that gives the best warranty service or bundle

only change i would make is to the case and power supply to a corsair HX620 or higher rated PSU because i like to know that i have the PSU needed to power my rig if i do a major upgrade to it and a lian-li case because im a lian li fanboy but both options are over your budget

Yeah I'd probably change the case etc personally, but he only wants to spend about £300 really, already it's over budget as it is!

I might have to even downgrade the card or something...Need to play with the spec really.
