heres my current system (works fine)
Spec List
going to upgrade it soon but doing it in 2 parts, so for now ill just be replacing my old 7300 GS with an x1950 and ill be adding an extra 320 GB SATA, and most proberly removing the old 40 gb IDE. in my current spec im using a standard 20+4 pin 300w supply, no problems so far i was just wondering if it will be safe to add these components?

my 2nd part will include a corsair 450w, new mobo and an e2180, so will the 450 be enough for this part or should i goes for 520w?

:( ok thats disappointing, i guess i could squeeze the corsair into part 1 :D and buy the mobo and cpu in about a month or 2 :)

I ran an AGP x1950 pro with a 400w el cheapo PSU....and someone on the x1950 pro thread confirmed it worked with a shuttle 250w PSU, so it might, but more power is always better.

yeah, the AGP actually uses more power than it's PCI-e counterpart, which is why I stressed that myself and this other gentleman were using the AGP. But like everyone else says, more is better with PSU's :)

Ive got a 300w psu powering my Q6600, 4gb ram, 768mb 8800gtx, 2x 320gb and 1x 250gb hdds, but yeah id say get the decent psu in the first upgrade

:eek::eek::eek:

Are you crazy? Similar spec and I'm drawing 250W from the mains when it's idle! 415W ish under load.

Just use this calculator. And for the love of god do not select dual or quad processor if you have a multi core cpu.

Thing is its been proved that el cheapo PSUs dont produce anything like their rated wattage, so even after using the calculator he wont know if his el cheapo produces 300W, or only 180W as I recall one did in a test a few years ago.

Would it be ok to use the 300w PSU since my system (see above) is not overclocked... AT ALL, apart from 10% extra current to pci-e which i will swiftly disable before fitting the x1950 :D
