NVIDIA is set to release the GeForce RTX 3050 6GB in February, differentiating itself from its 8GB counterpart primarily in power requirements and core count. This new model does not necessitate an additional PCIe 8 PIN or 6 PIN power supply, thanks to its Total Graphics Power (TGP) of just 70W.

The GeForce RTX 3050 6GB is equipped with 2304 CUDA Cores, which is a 10% reduction from the 2560 CUDA Cores found in the 8GB version. However, this core count is consistent with the OEM version of the GeForce RTX 3050, which also features 2304 CUDA Cores and comes with 8GB of memory. In terms of clock speeds, the RTX 3050 6GB is set at 1042/1470MHz, lower than the 1552/1777 MHz of the 8GB variant. Additionally, there is a decrease in memory bandwidth, with the 6GB version offering 168GB/s compared to the original 224GB/s in the 8GB model. The GPU codename for the GeForce RTX 3050 6GB is GA107-325.

With an anticipated retail price of around US$179, the GeForce RTX 3050 6GB is poised to gradually supplant both the GeForce GTX 16 series and the RTX 3050 8GB variant, positioning itself as NVIDIA's entry-level, plug-in-free graphics card option.

Surely this is really just a 3040, scam named again by Nvidia up a tier that it shouldn't be in?

The xx50 card has long been their 'does not need additional power' card. The old / other 3050 should have been called the 3050 Ti. This should beat the RX 6400 hands down.

The price is a joke: you can get a RX 6600 or A580 for that.

It is, but consumers have already shown that they just don't care about misleading names. Nvidia have been getting away with it for generations now, from the 3GB "1060" to the 8GB "3060" that should have been the 3050 Ti, but wasn't. AMD haven't been quite as bad, but calling a minor clock speed/power limit bump a new SKU is still complete nonsense.

Er, Where is the 4050?! (Ignoring the 4060 is actually the 4050 for a second and just looking at the 4xxx product stack the "bottom end" is completely missing..).

I think RTX3050 with 6GB purposed for countries on budget. Proper milking

This still could be done:

Release 8GB 4060S AD106 /12GB 4060S Ti AD104 (£299/£399)
Discontinue 4060/4060Ti
Release 4050 (£199)

Will see if first part happens by Easter and 4050 on summer.

The way i see it is they did this because they couldn't cut down Ada dies any further and still have a functional die, that the die used on the 4060 is the smallest they could make Ada and still have a functional card and because they're charging $500 for the smallest thing they can physically make they had to come up with something else.

It's basically what people have said since the 40 series launched, that they've shifted the entire product stack/price up. That they expect you to pay 4060 prices for what should have been a 4050.

And they expect you to pay money for something that would have been better off in the bin (3050 6gb).
Yeah, this level of performance is not worth being made anymore, newer games are barely playable. AMDs APUs will soon be faster than this and if you need a basic display adapter, Zen 4 and 12-14th gen all have them as standard now.
