3050 - not detecting on old board

Hi Team,
Trying to install my son's new Palit 3050 into his gaming rig. His old RX570 was working fine, but when plugging in the new 3050, it is not detecting at all.

Black screen on boot, and on-board display taking over, not able to force a detect, and nvidia driver installer is saying that the device is not detected, so cannot continue.

Its a Foxconn board with an I5-2500k, 500w PSU, and 120gb Samsung SSD.

I thought perhaps it might be the PSU not up to the job, so have a new 700w on the way. Am I perhaps looking at a BIOS/UEFI issue, or maybe it's just HW that is too old to use a new card?

Once the new PSU is here later today, I will install and try again, but if anyone has any ideas, I would appreciate it!

Yup, exact same issue here on my sons old lga 1155 system with an i7-2600. My 6800 works fine in his, the 3050 works fine in my PC, but nothing from the 3050 in his PC.

Unfortunately I couldnt get anything working so i've picked him up a cheap 2nd hand Ryzen system. Thinking about it now, it probably would have worked out about the same total cost just to buy a 6600xt or even a 3060ti instead

Great info guys, guess I shall go looking for a second-hand cpu/mobo on facebook marketplace. It's a shame, as the CPU punches well for it's price/age!
Maybe perhaps just get myself a new CPU/Mobo and hand mine down. I am running an MSI z270 board with a 7700k, so should fine!

You know you want the upgrade.

Sounds like a great excuse :p

Have to confess i was tempted to get myself a 5800x and give him my 3700x, but managed to get a bargain cpu/motherboard bundle instead.

By the time i flog his old stuff it hopefully shouldn't be too much extra and at least he'll be a bit more future proof
