Aaaaahhhh, help, my 98 306 passenger windows stuck open. The switch doesn't close it and when I tried a new fuse it blew, so somethings not right. Is there anyway to manually close it before it rains?

I've got the interior panel off but I'm greeted with the metal frame of the door, looks like it's all sealed in :(

peel the sealant back. and push the window up yourself. insert piece of wood to jar it up. :)

sorted

*talking from experience from when mine failed on way to work during the winter on dual carriageway, i arrived VERY cold :p*

your mechanism has most probably jammed and failed, hence why it keeps blowing a fuse as your overloading the electric motor as the mechanism is jammed.

heres what mine looked like:

new mechanism from ebay for £20 and an hour of my time and it was dandy again. however mine is the xsara and 4 year younger, im not sure what the '98 306s had for mechanisms...

Make sure the runners are securely bolted to the door as the window can twist and jam into the frame. The fuse has probably blown because the motor is trying to draw more power to close it.
Check the wiring hasn't become chaffed from the car into the door while you're there.

How do you get it back up? The window rests on the bottom of the door! I resume it doesn't stay up itself and you need the piece of wood to hold it in place?

i just pushed it up with my alpha strength :p

push it up hard and it should stay in place, until you drive it that is. i had to keep pushing it up after every journey as i could not be arsed to find/make a suitable length of wood :D

 :o :p :D

I can get into the window by either pushing it from the bottom or pulling it from the top but the left hand side seems to be stuck and I can't even pull it up.

give it some encouragement ;) be careful though, glass and that etc. have a look at the guide rail it is sliding up, see if its stuck on that.

Thanks for the help guys, but it won't budge. Looks like it's a black bag job until I can get it fixed (great, more money!). Just as well the schools are of so I can use the other car for work.
