Would you buy a 306 without a full service history?
Looking at one thats £1000, 41,000 registered in 2001 (Y reg).
It's a 1.6 meridian.

Would be my first car that I bought but have previously driven under the family.

as well as various vans as art of my summer/winter jobs.

My only concern is that the 60,00 service of clutch etc. Break disks were done 2,000, miles ago.

Yes. It's a 1k car. Make sure the cambelt has been done on time, give it a service when you get it, do the clutch if it dies.

Theres not an amazing amount to really go wrong with a 1.6 306, however.

If it has not had a cambelt done, then it really would be wise to have it done ASAP, if the owner does not know, then you will have to assume it has not been done.

Check the rear wheels dont sit like this : /---------------\ on the road, as that means the rear beam will need its bushes/bearings replacing - not a hard job, but you could be charged for a repalcement by a garage.

Also, don't expect the Air-Con to work, if it does its a bonus, the 306 suffers from regular corroision of the lower condensor pipe - which on a car of this age has probably struck by now.

By all regards, cambelts and clutches & servicing on these cars are really fairly easy (More so for the 1.4/1.6, 16v and Derv engines can be more tricky) - So if you are mechanically minded maintenance can be peanuts.

I have owned two of the things (First and Second Cars) so any questions feel free to ask.

As far as I am aware, the 16v Never made it into the 306 in 1.6 form - There were two 1.6 engines:

1.6 (90hp) - Has a black cam cover or later a silver cam cover
1.6 (100hp) - has a silver cam cover, and the cat converter is on the downpipe on the front of the engine.
