3060 mining protection hacked

What are you on about.

They made a claim to protect "gaming" card supply (although there's more negative angles available on that) and five minutes later Vietnamese hackers get past it.

It's incompetence and all their claims are now garbage (if the hack claim is true).
Nobody cares, read the comments on social media. Most people are not knowledgeable.

Maybe you see what’s going on, but the vast majority don’t.

They didn't come in here to say they don't care.

You did.

So why are you telling anyone to stop talking because of idiots on social media. Let them be idiots.

Now, as it turned out the story was half wrong. The cards are being used to mine but a different cryptocurrency than the one Nvidia said they were blocking.

Saw this coming half a mile away. If they really wanted to stop it, why not put the protection in the actual card or bios, would have at least took longer to get past.

Read the history of the conversation, someone is saying it is disastrous PR. Just replying on the back of that.

The Bios protection to stop us modding them to get extra Power+Volts+Fan speed etc has not been broken yet so I doubt this has.

The last card to be able to do so on was either Fermi or Maxwell (cannot remember 100%) but not Pascal onwards.

They would probably have to do something at the silicon level to cripple mining functions, dicking about with bios and supposed "handshakes" between this or that will always be worked around.

you would be a fool not to earn money while your sleeping or 'not gaming' heck i can still hash at 60 playin valorant so even if I'm losing I'm winning.
No one has a problem with a regular user making a bit of money back on their gaming card, it’s the pro’s who snap up every card in existence who we have the problem with. They are scum.

I don't think this is bad news for gamers, rather it's predictable and bad news for NVIDIA.

There is no doubt in my mind the only reason NVIDIA introduced limits is to control the second hand market of GPU's. NVIDIA want every customer to buy a new graphics card and if random fluctuations in cryptocurrency flood the second hand market, it's a lot of lost sales for NVIDIA. So to my mind it is just pure greed on NVIDIA's part that they introduced the restrictions, so I care less if someone undermines them.

Except proper corporate miners who might by the CMP are in it for the long game and won’t be selling up even if cypto drop.

hobby miners, even big ones, won’t buy CMP cards as they need an out and need to shift cards when the market drops.

It’s just shady marketing from Nvidia.

I see even more YouTube videos have come out discussing that the hack has occured, yet they have not bothered researching or even reading whether it is true. How embarrassing for these channels pedalling fake news.

Crypto clickbait on youtube is some of the worst.

I was looking at Gibbo's thread showing what he is expecting to arrive for 3090 and 3080 cards and it is practically nothing, where are the AIB partners sending their cards?

you have to ask where they are going. Just take a look at the steam hardware survey.

6+ months in or a 1/4 of the way though the normal cycle and the RTX 3000 cards are mostly AWL.

1060 - 9.91%
1070 and 1070Ti - 4.22%
1080 - 1.97%

2060 and super - 5.24%
2070 and super - 4.01%
2080 and super - 1.65%

3060ti - 0.33%
3070 - not even listed
3080 - 0.74%

nvidia are claiming they have never sold more “gaming” cards and there financial results support this.

The cards aren’t going to gamers or newer games are not using steam?

Of course mining can be done but at what cost? Wouldn't it degrade the gpu memory over time?
